Domaine Scherb Vins d’Alsace
Domaine Bernard Scherb et Fils is a family wine estate established 4 generations ago, although records show that the family were winegrowers as far back as 1646.
The Alsace wine region covers some 15Â 000 hectares, producing mostly aromatic dry white wines, but also one red wine, the Pinot Noir.
Our family estate consists of around 15 hectares of vineyards situated within a radius of 15 kms and in 4 different villages (Gueberschwihr, Voegtlinshoffen, Rouffach and Orschwihr).
More than 30 individual vineyards enable us to benefit from a wide variety of terroirs. We produce wines from all the Alsace grape varieties (Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Muscat, Pinor Gris, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir) as well as AOC Crémant d’Alsace (sparkling wine).
Our vineyards include two Grand Cru sites : Vorbourg (in Rouffach) and Goldert (in Gueberschwihr).
Our vines are cultivated in the traditional manner with Alsace-style guyot-double pruning and a density of 5Â 000 vines per hectare, set in rows 1m70 apart and with 1m10 between each vine.
Alternate rows are grassed over, the other ploughed, in order to avoid the use of pesticides. Fertiliser is rarely used and, like pesticide treatments, is limited to the bare minimum and only if necessary.
Our grapes are harvested entirely by hand and bunches are pressed intact.
